Total Truck Support is here to provide truckers with valuable trucking industry and trucking tax updates. Below is some relevant information about the Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax.

If you operate a truck or other vehicle categorized as a heavy highway motor vehicle on public highways, you must file Form 2290, Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return and pay excise tax.

Truckers and others who put a taxable heavy highway vehicle (over 55,000 lbs) on the road beginning in July 2013 must file Form 2290 and pay the tax due for their vehicles by Sept. 3, 2013. Normally the deadline is Aug. 31, but that’s a Saturday this year, so the deadline extends to the next business day – Tuesday, Sept. 3 (Monday, Sept. 2, is Labor Day, a holiday).
